AT&T has been touting its 5G network as the next big thing in wireless technology. But is it really all it’s cracked up to be?
Not so fast. There are a number of reasons to be skeptical of AT&T’s 5G claims.
The first and most important thing to know is that AT&T’s 5G network isn’t actually 5G. It’s a technology called 5G Evolution, which is a stopgap measure until real 5G networks are available.
5G Evolution is based on the same technology as 4G LTE, which means it doesn’t offer the same speeds or performance as true 5G. In fact, AT&T’s 5G Evolution network is only slightly faster than its 4G LTE network.
Even if AT&T’s 5G Evolution network was true 5G, it’s only available in a few cities. As of right now, AT&T’s 5G Evolution network is only available in parts of Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.
If you live outside of one of these cities, you’re out of luck. You won’t be able to experience AT&T’s 5G Evolution network.
AT&T’s 5G Evolution network is also expensive. AT&T charges $10 per month for access to its 5G Evolution network. This is on top of the cost of your regular monthly plan.
If you’re not willing to pay an extra $10 per month, you won’t be able to access AT&T’s 5G Evolution network.
If you’re considering signing up for AT&T’s 5G Evolution network, there are a few things you should keep in mind.
First, make sure that you live in an area where AT&T’s 5G Evolution network is available. Second, be prepared to pay an extra $10 per month for access to the network. And finally, keep in mind that AT&T’s 5G Evolution network isn’t true 5G. It’s a stopgap measure until real 5G networks are available.
If you’re willing to accept these limitations, then AT&T’s 5G Evolution network may be a good option for you. However, if you’re looking for true 5G speeds and performance, you’ll need to wait until real 5G networks are available.
